Body and soul

you know the feling.. the way your heart aches whenever you think of him or her; the funny ache in the pit of your stomach; and the inane inability to wipe the silly grin off your face in his or her presence. yep, that's love for you.

Being drunk on love produces on emotional high that is similar to the effects of imbibing. it send you into an euphroic state, mking everything seem more pleasant and lovely, thus the expression 'to look at the world through rose- tinted glasses'. life finaly has a meaning and nothing can get you down, not even your parents' incessant nagging or your pesky younger siblin's annoying taunts. why, you might even find yourself embracing them or volunteering to take them out for a day - something you thought you would do only when hell freezes over.
Love also has the ability to reduce the most articulate person into a blubbering mess in front of his/her object of affection. all sense flies out the dooe, and faults and imperfections miraculously disappear. as they say, 'love is blind'.

One of the benefits of being in love is that it satisfies your emotional needs. without love, you tend to subconsciously resort to subsitues to fill a void in your life. Most replacements for love - overreacting, imbibling, overworking and even smoking - are detrimental to your health. when you fal in love, these bad habits fade into the background in the face of the real deal. you don't need to seek a replacement for that missing chapter in your life anymore.

there's nothing better than love for a healthy dose of that feel - good factor. for girls, nothing will keep their hearts warmer than the sense of security found in their boyfriends' arms, and for guys, knowing that someone thinks the world of them does wonders for their self esteem.

love also banishes all signs of fatigue. knowing that you're going to meet up with your sweetie at the end of the day gives you that euphorix sprut of energy neede to get through school and rush into their arms when you meet them. previous feelings of tiredness miraculously disappear, even though you might have been up since six in the morning.

love can also be a cardio workout! the quickening of your pulse in your loved one's presence means that youe body has released adrenaline into your bloodstream. the heart pumps more blood around your body, which is the same reaction after you exercise. you get the same benefits as a workout session.
studies have also shown that there is scientific proof that love is beneficial to your well being. in love and survival, the scientific basis for the healing power of intimacy (harper collins, 1988), Dean Ornish, M.D., helped conduct a study at Yale that involved 119 men and 40 women undergoing coronary angiography. those who felt the most loved and supported has substantially less blockages in their heart arteries than the other patients! a related study on men with high levels of risk factors of angrina found that these who felt that their partners did not show them love experienced almost twice as much angrina as those whose partners showed them love.

:when you feel loved, nurtured, cared for, supported, and intimate, you are much more likely to be happier and healthier. you have a much lower risk of getting sick and, if you do, a much greater chance of surviving," Ornish concludes.

being in love also motivates you to take a healthy interest in your appearnace. after all. you do want to look your best for your sweetie, don't you? you're more inclined to take up a sport together to give your body the exercise that it needs, or even indulge in a hobby that feeds both your minds. you're looking fab. feeling happier than you've ever been. and gone are the days when you're moping around your house feeling miserable for yourself and perhaps indulging in one Ben & Jerry's too many a la Bridget Jones. yes, love is a many splendoured thing indeed.
